Larry Wilmore Compares US-Cuba Relations to Childhood Game

The Nightly Show host also introduces comedian Ricky Velez to share his thoughts.

On last night's episode of The Nightly Show, host Larry Wilmore discussed the warming relations between the United States and Cuba after more than five decades of corrosive dealings.

The satirical TV personality highlighted the new wet foot, dry foot policy, which states that Cubans who are intercepted at sea will be forced to return to Cuba while those who set foot on American soil may apply for residency. He went on to compare the new strategy to a game of marco polo: "So, if you get to land, you can stay, but if you get caught in the water, you're out?" he said. "Man, that's some high stakes marco polo."

Wilmore later brought out comedian Ricky Velez, who compared the new U.S.-Cuba partnership to a scenario on X-Men: "Let's start with the Cuban missile crisis," he said. "Missiles were flying at Cuba and Magneto was down there and he was like, 'No thanks.' And next thing you know, Professor X got shot in the back and now he has to be in a wheelchair."
