Get Ready: Shonda Rhimes' New Show Will Be Her Most Epic One Yet
What happens when Shakespeare meets Shonda Rhimes? We're about the find out. Romeo & Juliet, The Bard's famous tale of star-crossed lovers, is coming to Shondaland! The new series, a continuation of the classic tragedy, will air on ABC, the network has confirmed.
The drama, based on Melinda Taub’s novel Still Star-Crossed, will carry on the tale of Capulet and Montague, focusing on the two families' continued feud following the death of Romeo and Juliet.
In the story, the warring families agree that the only way to end the long blood-feud is by marrying a young member of each family to one another. This Shonda-fied version of Shakespeare has been in development for quite some time and Rhimes will be bringing along key members of her team, including writers Betsy Beers and Heather Mitchell, the latter of whom will serve as both a writer and producer on the project.
The focus on young romance will be a new challenge for Rhimes to tackle, as her previous projects have focused on more mature characters. This will be the fifth series that Rhimes brings to ABC, after Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder, but certainly not the last.
Shonda is a television visionary who is not anywhere close to being done making history. Watch a recap of her amazing career, below:
