Box Office: Maze Runner Wins, No Good Deed Hangs On to Top Five

Liam Neeson's A Walk Among the Tombstones disappoints.

The Maze Runner topped this weekend’s box office with a whopping $32.5 million in ticket sales. The film adaptation of the YA novel, featuring a cast of relative newcomers, had such a promising debut that a sequel has already been set for September 2015.

Liam Neeson's A Walk Among the Tombstones came in a distant second place, but fell below expectations with a $13.1 million gross. Taking third was the star-studded adult dramedy This Is Where I Leave You, starring Jason Bateman and Tina Fey, with an $11.9 million debut.
Rounding out the top five were No Good Deed, starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, and family film Dolphin Tale 2, starring Morgan Freeman, which earned $10.2 million and $9 million, respectively.

Next week, the wait is over: Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer will finally hit theaters and IMAX with very little competition for audience attention. Those in the mood for art house fare can catch Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in the biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side.
