Halle Berry Claps Back at Internet Trolls
Halle Berry is arguably one of the most celebrated stars in Hollywood, and with that admiration comes a slew of rumors, specifically about her love life.
While at the Cannes Lions festival in France, the Oscar winner spoke on this aspect of her life in the limelight, and revealed that she's sick of the random dating rumors that hold no truth.
"If I am having dinner with a friend, and a man comes up and asks to take a picture, most times I will always say, 'Of course!'" she said, according to Page Six. "But then that person posts the picture on social media as if I am dating that person, and suddenly I am dating, like, 100 people. It seems silly... but I think that is frustrating [about] social media."
She continued, saying that while she appreciates social media for what it is, she believes it can also be a pretty dangerous tool when misused.
"Social media is empowering in many ways, but the part that is concerning for me, especially with my personal brand, is that that power can be misused," she said. "It can be a brand killer."
Taking control of her brand and social media interactions, Berry has come up with a solution of her own. She is set to relaunch Halleworld, her fan site which initially kicked off in the early 2000s. She explained that it will be more fan-based this time around and hopes that it will inspire more constructive conversations to take place.
"What makes America great is that we have the right to have an opinion, we have the right to agree to disagree, but I think we do need a place today for people to come together and have real conversation," she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Based on where we are now with this great divide in our country, and it's my obligation as an artist, to start providing that forum for people to talk things out and bring us a little bit closer."
