Bill Cosby Could Face Criminal Charges From One Accuser
Public shaming, the loss of his reputation and the destruction of his career isn't the only fallout Bill Cosby is dealing with after it was revealed that he does, indeed, use drugs as a means to rape women. The comedy icon could face criminal charges from one alleged victim who is still within the statute of limitations.
A lawyer for Chloe Goins, the young woman who came forward earlier this year accusing Cosby of drugging and sexually abusing her at the Playboy Mansion in 2008, believes the recent document dump from Cosby's 2005 lawsuit could significantly strengthen his client's case.
Goins, now 24, described her experience with Cosby in lurid detail. She says she met Cosby at a party at the Playboy Mansion in 2008 when she was just 18, and the sitcom star offered her a drink. Soon after, she says, “everything kind of went a little foggy.”
Hugh Hefner noticed she looked a little sick and suggested she go lie down in one of the mansion's many bedrooms. She says Cosby escorted her, and that he knew his way around. Next thing she knew, she woke up completely naked on the bed and Cosby was masturbating while licking and sucking on her toes. “I was butt naked lying on my back on a bed and didn’t have any idea where I was,” she recalls.
“He was at my feet,” Goins continued, “kind of licking and kissing them and I think he bit my toe and that’s what woke me up … I said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ He didn’t really say anything, didn’t explain anything or give a reason. He jumped up, pulled his pants back up quickly and left. He had seen that I was alert and bolted out of there. I was left in the room by myself.”
Goins claims she soon realized Cosby's mouth had been all over her body. Still, she doesn't think intercourse was involved.
In California, the statute of limitations for rape is 10 years, but Goins describes her situation as sexual battery, which has a six-year statute. Do the math, and it's clear that the clock is running out on her chance to press charges.
Her attorney, Spencer Kuvin, tells a Fox News affiliate that the recent revelations are “very helpful … both criminally and potentially in a civil action.” He adds that “we can use this testimony to prove his modus operandi as a serial sex abuser.”
Meanwhile, Team Cosby is bailing on him, fast. Deadline.com reports that his agents at CAA quietly dropped him earlier this year, and his attorney Marty Singer — who has vehemently vocalized Cosby's innocence throughout the scandal — has remained noticably silent since the new revelations.
