Box Office: The Perfect Guy Hooks Audiences for First Place
Audiences certainly fell under the spell of The Perfect Guy this weekend. The thriller, starring Michael Ealy, Sanaa Lathan and Morris Chestnut came in first place, narrowly beating out M. Night Shyamalan's latest fright fest The Visit. The Perfect Guy took in $26.7 million to The Visit's $25.7.
The film's success marks the fifth weekend in a row that a film with Black actors in the lead won the box office: Straight Outta Compton took three in a row, followed by faith-based film War Room and now The Perfect Guy.
War Room placed third with $7.4 million for a domestic total of $39.2 million, while Robert Redford and Nick Nolte's A Walk in the Woods followed with $5 million for a 10-day domestic total of $20 million. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation rounded out the top five with an estimated $4.2 million, narrowly beating Straight Outta Compton, which fell to sixth place.
Next week, Johnny Depp's Oscar-buzzworthy Black Mass goes up against David Oyelowo and Kate Mara in The Captive.
