103-Year-Old Returns to Church After Ban
Genora Hamm Biggs is free to praise the Lord once again, after her ban from Georgia's Union Grove Baptist Church has been lifted. Biggs, 103, was ejected from her church, where she's been a member for more than forty years, by the pastor, with whom she had repeatedly butt heads over his preaching style.
Last month, after the ban made headlines, Biggs announced her intention to keep attending the church, much to the chagrin of Rev. Tim Mattox, the pastor of six years who initiated the ban. Mattox said that he began receiving death threats after Biggs’ story went viral.
Now, the pastor himself has been evicted from Union Grove and has announced his intention to start New Bethel with a few of his flock. Biggs would not be welcome.
Biggs’ attorney Ken Dious said his client was “elated” to be returning to the church she loves. “This is the only church she’s ever known,” he said. “It was her grandfather who started that church.”
