Jamie Foxx Sued Over New Single

Singer's "Party Ain't a Party" song sounds similar to another artist's track, lawsuit states.

UPDATE: Jamie Foxx is in the clear for the copyright infringement lawsuit filed against him. Nontra Records dropped their claim, less than 48 hours after filing. The reason behind the change of mind is unclear, but a spokesperson for Foxx stated in a release, “This is Jamie Foxx’s recording, no one else’s.”

PREVIOUS: Jamie Foxx’s latest single, “Party Ain’t a Party,” sounds a little too much like a track from another artist, a newly filed lawsuit states. Up-and-coming singer J Rand is suing three people for the alleged theft: Foxx, 2 Chainz (who is featured on the song), and producer DJ Mustard.

Mustard produced both songs, although Rand’s version features Bay Area rapper Iamsu! and was recorded a year ago. The tracks sound almost identical, with the exception of Rand's and Foxx’s respective singing voices.

The suit states that Foxx, “after being absent from the music scene for over four (4) years,” poached Rand’s music to make his comeback. The 46-year-old's last album, Best Night of My Life, was released in 2010.

“Party Ain’t a Party” dropped last week and pulls its title from Queen Pen's 1997 song. Foxx's single debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Trending 140 chart, which tallies social media conversations around artists and their music.
