Meek Mill Says He's Scared to Be Political in His Music

Meek talks his recording process and his relationship with Nicki Minaj in Billboard.

Meek Mill is featured in the Aug. 8 issue of Billboard and he’s allowed readers to get some insight on his relationship with Nicki Minaj, his beefs and his new album, Dreams Worth More Than Money.

The Philly rapper has been the center of attention ever since he started dating Minaj. He’s beginning to see more eyes are on him and he wishes he had his privacy again. "You want to be private with your girl once in a while," he said. "I would love to be able to just walk down the street by ourselves. Say my mom took a picture of me with no shirt on... I'm skinny — I got a little bird chest and a fat stomach. I can't really tell my mom not to take that picture, that I'm not trying to have that type of look in the streets."

He also addresses critics of his public displays of affection towards Minaj. Recently, Joe Budden had some words about their relationship (which he later clarified), but Meek doesn’t seem to care. "You can't be hard all the time, man,’ he said. “There's both sides to everything. What's wrong with it? Jay Z was a street rapper and he had a girlfriend."

Further along in the story, Meek, who is known to be very aggressive in his music, opens up about why he fears to be political in his rhymes. "I'm scared to be political. You get too powerful and more people try to take you out. My son ain't trying to hear that his dad got put away because he was fighting for the country."
