Report: Shane Redway Dies at 26
Rising rap star Shane Redway has died after being involved in a car crash in Toronto, his representatives have confirmed to local media.
“Redway was known for being a passionate artist who was always striving for greatness, pushing the boundaries of always believing in your visions and dreams which led to the creation of the BLVD (The Belief Leading Visions & Dreams),” the management company said in a statement released to the Toronto Star.
Redway was one of three people reportedly killed in the accident, which occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 1 on a highway near Pearson International Airport. The vehicle lost control, hit a guardrail and then burst into flames. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
“At this point we are looking at every option. We don’t have any indication from direct witnesses so we are appealing to any witnesses that may have seen the vehicle prior to the collision to come forward and speak with police, and we are following up with the original owner of the vehicle and family members,” Const. Kerry Schmidt of the Toronto police department told the station. “We don’t know if alcohol, fatigue, distraction or any other factors played a part in this. It is still very dynamic.”
Redway is being grieved by his friends in the music industry.
“Gone way too soon,” Drake wrote of Redway on Instagram. “Just saw this guy yesterday at Bounce. RIP Redway.” He later added, “Should have told you yesterday I was proud of what we had both done for our city over these years and I didn't cause there were too many chairs and too many people in the way. A lesson to anybody second guessing. Rest easy king.”
Redway's Caribbean influence found a kindred spirit in Kardinal Offishall, who tweeted condolences. "He was on his way to greatness," he wrote.
