Juror: 'No One' Believed Wafer's Self-Defense Claim in McBride's Killing

A juror from the Theodore Wafer trial said no one believed he killed Renisha McBride in self-defense when she knocked on the door of his Michigan home after crashing her car in November 2013.

A juror from the Theodore Wafer trial said "no one believed" he killed Renisha McBride in self-defense when she knocked on the door of his Michigan home after crashing her car in November 2013, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Wafer's explanation to the police was that the shooting was an accident. But his testimony during his murder trial was that he shot McBride in self-defense. This change "hurt him big time," the juror said under anonymity.
The juror added that the defense relied on emotions for their case while prosecutors relied on evidence. If Wafer had not testified, the juror also believes the outcome of the trial would have been different.
Theodore Wafer was found guilty of murder and manslaughter on Aug. 7, 2014, in the fatal shooting of McBride, an unarmed African-American 19-year-old.
Wafer, 55, is facing life in prison. His sentencing date is set for Sept. 3.
