Laurence Fishburne Salutes Military Families for Memorial Day
A bevy of stars gathered this weekend to honor those who earned their stripes on behalf of freedom, democracy, and security.
Laurence Fishburne, Gloria Estefan, and Natalie Cole were among the celebrities at the 2015 National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, D.C., which this year recongnized the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and honored not only the bravery of those who sacrificed their lives and the families who bear the burden of grief, but also the some 4 million disabled veterans, who lost life as they knew it.
The Black-ish actor took the stage to shares war stories on behalf of veteran drill sergeat, Ted "Mr. Hercules" Strong. "My stepsons used to call me 'Strong Daddy'," he said, "but now they were helping their mother lift me on to the bed pan." The graphic details helped to drive home the courage of those who serve in the trenches, those who are on constant alert.
Cole later joined to sing "I'm Beginning to See the Light," and a duet with her father Nat King Cole's vocals, "Walkin' My Baby Back Home." Estefan sang her 1991 hit, "Coming Out of the Dark," and the latest American Idol, Nick Fradiani handled the national anthem.
