Midwestern State University is mourning. Its sophomore cornerback Robert Grays died Tuesday from a neck injury he suffered while making a tackle during a game Saturday, as reported by ESPN. He was 19.

Midwestern State athletics spokesperson Trey Reed told ESPN that Grays was first hospitalized in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday night before being flown to a hospital in his hometown of Houston, where he died Tuesday.

According to ESPN, Grays' family released a statement thanking people for their "prayers, kind words, condolences and support."

Midwestern State president Suzanne Shipley also released a statement yesterday morning.

The team's wide receivers coach Donte Ellington also took to his Instagram account to remember Grays and provide people with the "#24Strong" t-shirt campaign, donations from which will all go to the young man's family.

People also flooded Grays' own IG page with condolences in addition to remembering the cornerback on their respective Twitter accounts as well.

According to Sports Illustrated,  Grays was a business major. Our condolences to his family during this extremely tough time.
