BET Networks is excited to announce it is partnering with Relativity Media to produce Blackbird, a new film by Love & Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film will star Danny Glover, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Undercovers, Larry Crowne) and Nate Parker (Red Tails). 
Blackbird is the story of Noni Jean, a hot new award-winning artist who is primed for superstardom. But all that glitters isn't gold, and the pressures nearly cause Noni to take her own life — until she is saved by Kaz Nicol, a promising young cop whose been assigned to her detail. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of their parents who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. But it is ultimately Kaz's love that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.
The film will be the first collaboration between BET and Relativity. "Relativity is always looking to work with creative and original companies like BET Networks. We are excited to have them on board for Blackbird,” says Tucker Tooley, president of Relativity Media.

BET Networks looks forward to the first of many collaborations and sharing the final production on the big screen with our U.S and African audiences via its theatrical release.”
Blackbird will be released theatrically by Relativity, and then have an exclusive television premiere in the U.S. and South Africa on BET.
