Chicago Gun Violence: 40 Shot, 4 Killed This Past Weekend

A bloody weekend in Chicago ended with 40 people wounded and four people killed from gun violence.

A bloody weekend in Chicago ended with 40 people wounded and four people killed from gun violence. The youngest victim was an 11-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet Friday night and later died.
Shamiya Adams was shot while at the home of a friend, who was having a sleepover. When gun fire erupted outside the home, a bullet broke through a window and hit her in the head. The girl was transported to the hospital, where medical personnel performed surgery on her wounds, but she succumbed to the injuries and died Saturday morning.
“If you can’t even be at home, where can you be safe?” said Terrence Redmond, a 32-year-old cousin, to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The remaining fatalities were three men. Brandon Wilson, 30, was found dead Saturday in his vehicle with bullet wounds in his back, neck and shoulder. Jaquan Hardy, 21, was shot in the head in the Austin neighborhood Saturday evening and pronounced dead at a nearby medical facility. Richard Velasquez, 24, was shot dead at a bar in Brighton Park Saturday.
In the meantime, the Justice Department has reacted to the continued violence by dispatching seven additional federal gun enforcement agents to Chicago to level off the situation in the city.
So far in 2014, 183 people have been killed by gun violence, according to data collected by Red Eye Chicago
