Man Pleads Guilty To Attempting To Sexually Assault 7-Year-Old Daughter Of His Airbnb Host, Who Found Him Lying Naked In Her Bed

Derrick Aaron Kinchen's family claims he went back to the home after a wedding and drunkenly got into the wrong bed.

The Michigan man who was accused of attempting to sexually assault a 7-year-old girl at the house where he stayed as an Airbnb guest has pleaded guilty.

Derrick Aaron Kinchen, 28, initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13; however, he amended his plea on Monday, reported KSTP.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says it expects he will receive the recommended sentencing guideline, which is five years probation and 18 months in prison if he violates his probation.

Kinchen was first arrested in Sept. 2017 when his Airbnb host called the police and reported he incident.

According to a criminal complaint, the unidentified witness and his wife had put their daughter to bed in their Minnetonka home while Kinchen was at a wedding. When Kinchen returned to the Airbnb, the witness saw his daughter’s bedroom door was opened.

When he walked inside the room, he allegedly saw Kinchen lying naked next to his daughter.

The witness then yelled at Kinchen, who fled the property.

According to the complaint, officers began a K-9 search and found Kinchen hiding in a partially-covered fishing boat at a neighboring residence, allegedly naked except for a suitcoat.

Kinchen's relatives have said he came to Minnesota for the weekend to attend a friend's wedding. While in town, he stayed at an Airbnb that he booked for two nights.

Kinchen's family claimed he reportedly got drunk at the wedding reception, and when he went to the bathroom. When he came out, he allegedly went to the wrong bedroom—because he was unfamiliar with the home—and passed out.

Ben Breit, a spokesperson for Airbnb, said in a statement that the company supports the host family.

"The reported abhorrent behavior has no place on Airbnb and we will not tolerate it," the statement said. "We are focused on providing our host family with our full support, we are working with the local police to ensure they have our assistance, and we banned this user from our community. Keeping our community safe is the most important thing we do. None of our hosts should ever have to deal with anything like this."
