True Hero: This Mother Made the Ultimate Sacrifice to Save Her Sons During the Dallas Shootings

Shetamia Taylor was trying to teach her sons about peaceful protesting.

A Texas mother made the ultimate sacrifice for her sons during the recent protest in Dallas on Thursday night. According to the New York Daily News, Shetamia Taylor, 37, took a bullet while shielding her sons as snipers opened fire on the police and protestors.

Her sister, Theresa Williams, said it all happened quickly as she was leaving the protest with her teenage boys, whom she brought to teach them about peaceful protesting.

"She jumped on top to cover him on the ground as she pushing him between two cars on the curb," Williams said. "All she could think about was her three other boys — Where are they at?"

After being shot in the leg, her 15-year-old brought her to the hospital. She underwent surgery on Friday. Despite being worried for her children, she was also concerned for the families of the victims involved in the shooting.

"She's not so much worried about the gunshot wound she has on her leg," her sister said, according to ABC News. "We're watching the news in the hospital room, and all she do is say, 'Lord, be with those families of the police officers.' And that's what she kept repeating."

Shetamia is expected to make a full recovery.
