Hey, Knicks Fans, This Could Be Your Future
Carmelo Anthony wants his New York Knicks to win desperately and avoid a repeat of their franchise-worst record of 17-65 last season.
That's why Melo is going extra hard in pitching New York to Kevin Durant in hopes that the impending 2016 free agent might choose the Knicks next summer. And according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Anthony's sales' pitch is working, as KD is considering the Knicks as a possible destination.
"I know for a fact that Carmelo Anthony has been and will continue to recruit Kevin Durant until the cows come home," Smith said on ESPN's First Take last week. "I’m also hearing that Kevin Durant is giving the New York Knicks consideration."
Melo being in Durant's ear will have the Knicks joining KD's current Oklahoma City Thunder squad and his hometown Washington Wizards as the main teams vying for his services. However, there's no doubt that the Knicks are most in need of a player the caliber of Durant to help turn their franchise around.
That could explain why Melo took the trip to Las Vegas for USA Basketball's mini-camp last month. Perhaps he viewed it as a way to speak to Durant, who was also attending the camp, in-person.
Both Melo and KD are coming off injuries, which limited them to 40 games and 27 games played, respectively, last season.
