Dallas Cowboys C.J. Spillman Faces Sexual Assault Allegation

Police say alleged incident occurred September 20 at team hotel.

The NFL has another sexual-assault allegation on its hands. On Thursday morning, ESPNDallas.com reported that Dallas Cowboys safety C.J. Spillman is being investigated in connection with an alleged sexual assault at the team’s hotel last month.

Grapevine, Texas, police said the alleged incident took place at the Gaylord Hotel on September 20, a day before the Cowboys played against the St. Louis Rams on the road. They took off to St. Louis later that Saturday. Sources tell ESPN Spillman has cooperated fully with the investigation.

This seems to be the incident that attorney Gloria Allred alluded to last week, when she said there’s a looming sexual-assault allegation, but didn’t name the player involved.

Allred said NFL executive vice president and general counsel Jeff Pash invited the alleged victim to be interviewed by the NFL, but the fact that he did it publicly, made Allred concerned.

She made that clear via a letter to Pash.

"The fact that you chose to make public your requests to interview our client confidentially causes us concern about whether the interview itself would be kept confidential or tweeted out by you as you did with your letter to me," Allred's letter to Pash said, according to ESPN. "However, I am willing to meet with you to discuss your request and also to learn the answers to our important questions posed in my original letter to you (which was not shared with the press)."

The news comes after several league players have been involved in domestic violence incidents this year alone, including Ray RiceGreg HardyRay McDonald and Jonathan Dwyer. There was no immediate response from the Cowboys as of Thursday morning. The Cowboys (3-1) host the Houston Texans (3-1) on Sunday.
