En Vogue Reunites For City Of Hope Gala

All five members of the supergroup performed together for the first time ever.

Veteran music group En Vogue reunited with its four original members for a performance at the 2019 City of Hope gala.

The original four members, Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones, posed alongside current member Rhona Bennett, who joined the group in 2003, with the group’s founders, Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, at the event.

The gala honored the life and achievements of Sylvia Rhone, chairwoman and CEO of Epic Records, on Thursday, Oct. 10, in Los Angeles.

Their on-stage performance with all five members marks the first time all members have performed together.

The Oakland group began to dismantle when Robinson left the group in 1997 after unresolved contractual negotiations. Herron, Ellis and Jones continued as a trio until Jones left the group to focus on family in 2001. She was replaced by Amanda Cole, who submitted a demo.

In a whirlwind of member-musical-chairs, Cole left the group to pursue a solo career and was replaced by actress and singer Rhonda Bennett in 2003. Two years later, Robinson rejoined the “Don’t Let Go” singers, as Bennett withdrew. Bennett, who appeared on The Jamie Foxx Show, returned to the group after Robinson left for a second time after failing to agree on business terms.

In July 2014, Bennett, Ellis and Herron performed as a trio with a new contract under Pyramid Records. On April 6, 2018, they released Electric Café, their first studio album in 14 years.

The seven-time Grammy-nominated group has sold more than 20 million records worldwide to date. In March 2015, Billboard deemed the band the ninth most-successful girl group of all-time.

Billboard also ranked “Don’t Let Go (Love)” and “Hold On” as two of the most successful girl group songs of all-time.
