Lorde Explains Why She Dissed Diplo

"If I see some weird body-shaming on my feed, I'm going to be like, 'Hey man...,' she said.

"Royals" songstress Lorde recently slammed popular DJ and producer Diplo — real name Thomas Wesley Pentz — after he body-shamed her close friend Taylor Swift with the tweet, "Someone should make a kickstarter to get taylor swift a booty." Now, days after the incident, she is explaining why she defended her friend.

"I love Wes and he's a big brother to me and one of my first friends in the industry," Lorde told FADER, "and part of having a friendship with someone like that is not letting them say stupid s**t."

The New Zealand-born singer stressed that she is not here for bullying women and would stick up for her girlfriend, even though she and Diplo are also friends.

"Taylor's my friend as well, and I'm a girl, and if I see some weird body-shaming on my feed, I'm going to be like, 'Hey man...'" she promised. As for Diplo, "We do still love each other, hopefully," she said.

She also credits her newfound outspokenness to her being forced to become a leader and taking charge of her own career: "It wasn't until I started to be able to run a board meeting and direct people in the way I wanted things to go that I gained confidence as a leader. As a businessperson, I got confident in saying, 'Hey, this is whack."
