Whitney Houston's Live Performances Get a New Album

Clive Davis to seal singer's stage legacy with CD/DVD combo.

Whitney Houston was arguably one of the greatest singers of her time and Clive Davis wants the world to know it. Clive, Houston’s longtime friend and collaborating producer, announced Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances, Houston’s first live album, which is set to be released via Legacy Records this fall.

"Stemming from the '80s and '90s, she, without question, is the greatest vocalist in the world. I want history to know that," Davis told Today on Tuesday (Sept. 16). "This CD/DVD will establish that there was no one like her. It's a phenomenal album."

Davis discovered Houston when she was just 19 years old and had a hand in her career for more than two decades, up until the day she died on Feb. 11, 2012, just hours before attending Davis’s annual pre-Grammy party.

“To see her from The Merv Griffin show at 19, [to see her] grow.... and in South Africa with a turban singing, 'I Will Always Love You' to 105,000 people, it was a marvel to see that she was as powerful and incredible as she was,” Davis said about revisiting Houston’s live archives for the album selection. “It was bittersweet that she died too young.”

Houston’s family, including her mother Cissy and sister-in-law Pat, also assisted in helping Davis preserve the singer's legacy. The CD/DVD is set to arrive on Nov. 10.
