Jon Stewart Slams Fox News' Ferguson Coverage

"The Daily Show" star blasted Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Andrea Tantaros, among others.

After returning from a two-week vacation, The Daily Show star Jon Stewart blasted the media coverage of the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests in Ferguson, Missouri. He focused largely on Fox News, calling out Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Andrea Tantaros, among others, during his opening monologue.

"Basically, you're saying, if only Michael Brown, instead of holding his hands over his head, had reached down to his waist and lifted up his shirt to show the gun he did not actually have, this whole tragedy could have been avoided,” Stewart said in response to a clip from Hannity.
"Do you not understand that life in this country is inherently different for white people and black people?”

Stewart also addressed how some Fox News personalities were suggesting that the media prioritize other issues, such as "Black-on-Black crime” and Chicago gun violence, over Ferguson and the fatal shooting of Brown. “Yes!” quipped Stewart. “Why all the interest in holding police officers to a higher standard than gangs? They both flash colors and, yes, one of them has been sworn to protect and defend, but still.”
Other segments in the show included Stewart being doused in mace and tear gas for the “Ferguson Protest Challenge” and correspondent Michael Che reporting from space after failing to find a city on Earth that has not seen an unarmed Black resident killed recently.

"This isn't all about how just one man was killed in one town," Stewart said. "It's about how people can't get a f--king cab, even though you're a neurosurgeon, 'cause you're black. I guarantee you, that every person of color in this country has faced an indignity — from the ridiculous to the grotesque to the sometimes fatal — at some point in their last couple of hours because of their skin color.”

"Race is there, and it is a constant," he added. "You're tired of hearing about it? Imagine how f--ing exhausting it is living it.”
