North Carolina A&T Holds 'Terrence J Day'

Former BET host visits and gifts $100,000 to his alma mater.

Terrence J came back to his alma mater a hero and benefactor. The former 106 & Park host announced this week that he will be giving an endowment of $100,000 to North Carolina's A&T University.
The television personality presented the gift Friday (April 24) as part of "Terrence J Day" at the school, where he also spoke to students about transforming from geeky college student to world-renowned TV host.

“The reason why I have the career I have is because of the four years I spent here,” said Jenkins, who wore his school colors — blue and yellow — for the event. “I was rough around the edges — totally a space cadet,” he recalled, before recounting his first foray into journalism at the college radio station.
It was only a couple of years after he got his degree in journalism and mass communications at A&T that Jenkins went in to audition for BET, eventually landing the gig of co-hosting 106 & Park, a position he held for six years.
Since leaving BET in 2012, Jenkins replaced Ryan Seacrest as co-anchor of E! News and is also building an acting career after his debut role in Think Like a Man.
“It’s just about being determined and staying hungry and going after it,” he said. “It’s just waking up every day and doing it.”
Jenkins' $100,000 gift will support the radio station and the school’s journalism program, which hosts every March a four-day multimedia boot camp that trains prospective journalists from colleges across the country.
