Jay Z to Produce a Film and Docu-Series Based on Trayvon Martin's Life

Hov is teaming up with the Weinstein Company once more.

Following the rousing premiere of his documentary series based on the tragic series of events in Kalief Browder's last days (Time: The Kalief Browder Story), Jay Z continues to shine light on injustices against men of color through film.

This time, he has partnered, once again, with the Weinstein Company, securing the the rights to produce and film a documentary series based on the life of slain teen Trayvon Martin.

According to Variety, the partners came out victorious in a "heated bidding war" over the rights to two books about the 17-year-old, who was shot to death by a then-28-year-old George Zimmerman, a member of his community's neighborhood watch group, in 2012.

Both the unjust murder and Zimmerman's acquittal of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges the following year ignited major protests throughout the nation in support of Martin, and sparked the conversation about police brutality and racial profiling.

The book, titled Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It and Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Lisa Bloom, who covered the trial for NBC, and Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, respectively, serve as inspiration for both projects.

Variety reports that the Weinstein Company "confirmed the deal, but declined to offer comment."

The projects, inspired by the literature, will include a six-part documentary series and the film.
