Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins may be coming to Broadway. Devil in a Blue Dress, the novel by Walter Mosley made popular by the Denzel Washington-starring film of the same name, will get the stage treatment in the near future, reports the New York Post's Page Six.
During a reading for his upcoming novel Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore, Mosley revealed that he is partnering with famed composer and jazz musician Branford Marsalis to bring the detective noir novel to Broadway. Set in 1948 Los Angeles and centered on a man (played by Washington) who turns to private detective work after he's laid off from his aerospace manufacturing job, Devil is one of Mosley's most popular works. The 1995 film adaptation also starred a young Don Cheadle, who earned rave reviews for his supporting role.
No word on whether or not Washington or Cheadle will reprise their roles in the stage adaptation, but if the production goes through, it will likely be one of the most exciting bills of the coming year.
