Kevin Powell Sues 'All Eyez on Me' Producers and Writers for Copyright Infringement
Famed music journalist Kevin Powell is currently in the process of suing the writers and producers of the recently premiered Tupac biopic, All Eyez on Me, claiming they used his work without his permission.
According to TMZ, Powell claims the writers and producers took his interviews with the hip hop legend without going through the proper channels to obtain them, and used them to write the movie's script.
The detailed suit highlights the ways the film copied the journalist's work including the fact that the movie's producer LT Hutton openly admitted to watching "all of the interviews" while in the process of making the film.
Powell also claims the character named "Nigel" in the biopic is actually based on a real-life goon who went by Haitian Jack, and the only way that this character could have been so meticulously fleshed out is by using information garnered from his articles.
In addition to these details, the film also shows the "Dear Mama" MC being interviewed while behind bars, which Powell famously did in the 1990s.
Not only does Powell want to be awarded profits from the film's box office sales, but he also requested to the judge that it be pulled from movie theaters across the country, effective immediately.
