Michael Irvin Is Being Investigated for an Alleged Sexual Assault in Florida

The Pro Football Hall of Famer's lawyer says "the allegations are completely false."

There was a period of time during Michael Irvin's career and even early into his retirement where trouble with the law was synonymous with his name as much as his greatness on the field. But several years have passed since the Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver turned NFL Network analyst has had any brushes with the law.

Well, that could all change now. TMZ Sports is reporting that Irvin is being investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a Fort Lauderdale hotel — something the football legend vehemently denies.

Law enforcement sources told the celebrity website that a 27-year-old Florida woman filed a police report claiming Irvin and herself had drinks at a bar during the wee hours of March 21, before going back to the W Hotel, where he was staying. She said once she was in Irvin's room, she began feeling sick, only last remembering her fighting the former football player off.

She added that when she came to, Irvin was ready to check out, adding that she took an Uber home and called the police that morning. The alleged victim fears that Irvin drugged and raped her. She claims to have gone to a medical lab, where she got a swab and blood test.

The woman additionally told police that she texted Irvin about whether they had sex and that he said he wouldn't hurt her.

That being said, Irvin denies having any sexual contact with the woman, adding that another male was present in their hotel room and that they were only there for 15 minutes because he had an early flight to catch. Irvin also alleged that the woman, a cosmetologist, texted him the next day asking him to come in for a facial when he gets back to Fort Lauderdale.

"Michael was in Ft. Lauderdale visiting his nieces and nephews at a track meet. He was also visiting his 90-year-old aunt and attending her birthday party," Irvin's lawyer, Larry Friedman, told TMZ. "He was blindsided by news of these allegations."

Friedman added, "The allegations are completely false. In the few hours since we've learned about them, we've already discovered many red flags about this young woman's background and the allegations she made against Michael. Even the complaint that she made specifically says she does not recall the events that took place. She was very drunk that night. Nothing happened and there was no assault."

Irvin had an infamous sexual assault allegation against him in 1997, but his accuser recanted her story and plead guilty to perjury. Ten years later, in 2007, Irvin was once again accused of sexual assault, for which he filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against his accuser. The parties eventually settled out of court in 2011.
