Stephen Curry Wants Challenge Flags in NBA
Stephen Curry has a way to ensure that NBA referees get calls right and are more accurate overall.
The Golden State Warriors all-star point guard believes the league should incorporate the use of challenge flags similar to the NFL.
“Obviously refs are human and they miss calls,” Curry told TNT's Ernie Johnson during Tuesday's NBA 2K15 Uncensored event, as reported by USA Today. “To be able to make sure they got the right one — maybe give the coach a little flag like they do in football and he gets two or three challenges a game to make sure they get the right call, especially in pivotal situations.”
Upon hearing that, Kevin Durant and James Harden disagreed with Curry's idea, hoping it doesn't see its way into the NBA.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t like to see anything changed because I like how the game is played,” Durant said to Johnson during the same NBA 2K15 event. “It’s not too much control by the coaches or refs or a player, I think it’s perfect how it is. I think if you give a guy — how can you tell if a guy is flopping a lot if you give coach the right to challenge calls...it would take some purity out of the game I think.”
Perhaps NBA coaches should weigh in as well. NFL coaches definitely make use of the challenge flags, throwing them onto the field to dispute calls and losing a timeout if their challenge is denied.
Is Curry right that the NBA would benefit from utilizing challenge flags or should the game be left alone as suggested by Durant?
