Bill Cosby Will Not Be Prosecuted for Alleged Sex Crime

Judy Huth claims star molested her when she was 15.

Bill Cosby is losing his case in the court of public opinion, but he won't have to face a court of law over allegations that he molested a woman when she was 15 years old. Los Angeles prosecutors on Tuesday declined to file any charges against Cosby after Judy Huth, now 58, said that the sitcom star sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.
Huth met with Los Angeles police detectives for 90 minutes last week, and the district attorney's office has decided to take no further action, saying the statute of limitations had passed.
Days before Huth spoke to police, she accused Cosby in a civil lawsuit of forcing her to perform a sex act on him in a bedroom of the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 years old. Cosby's attorney said that Huth attempted to extort $250,000 from the comedian before she sued and that she'd attempted to sell her story to a tabloid a decade ago.
Cosby is seeking a dismissal of Huth's lawsuit.
Meanwhile, morning show host Kathie Lee Gifford is saying Cosby made a move on her when she toured with the comedian as his opening act. Gifford relayed the anecdote on the Today show, but says Cosby was respectful when she rejected his advances. (Cosby was married at the time.)
"I said, 'Bill, no, we're friends,' and he said, 'OK, goodnight,' and I said, 'Goodnight.' And I went to my room, and he went into his room," Gifford recalls. "I'm not saying the women's allegations are not true. I'm just saying I never personally saw it with my own two eyes."
She adds, however, that supermodel Beverly Johnson's recent account that Cosby drugged her by lacing her cappuccino sounds familiar. "I do know that I got a chill [reading Beverly Johnson's article] because every night when we'd come off stage and Bill would be going onstage, he would have made cappuccinos for all three of us [Gifford and her back-up singers]."
She continues, "And I always thought it was such a kindness and it so sweet, and now you see Beverly Johnson saying that he made a cappuccino or something for her, and I just don't want it to be true but I'm not saying that the women are liars. From my own personal experience, it didn't happen. A lot of married men come onto single women, but once I said, 'No, absolutely not,' he respected it."
