The Disturbing Details of the Neurosurgeon Who Has Allegedly Been Raping Children Since 1997

Dr. James Kohut used two nurses to help him create "taboo families."

Prosecutors in California are building a case against a Santa Cruz, California, brain surgeon who allegedly raped multiple children with the help of two nurses, reported The Mercury News.

According to court documents Dr. James Kohut, who recently moved to Arkansas, wanted to impregnate women to have sex with their children. The allegations date back to 1997 and Kohut has been at the center of several criminal investigations in the past few decades.

However, the 57-year-old doctor, who is still licensed to practice in California, was never convicted of a crime.

“For nearly 20 years, the defendant has had a fixed sexual desire to be part of multiple ‘taboo families’ where the parents raise their children sexually,” Assistant District Attorney Steven Moore wrote in his opposition to a bail request by Kohut’s attorney.

According to Moore’s notes, Kohut preferred children ages 6 to 8, and would lure women and children from across the country.

“Kohut has a sexual compulsion and has solicited victims for decades,” Moore wrote. “Multiple police agencies have investigated the defendant over the last 20 years, including: Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Seaside police, Australian Federal Police as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation have investigated defendant for similar crimes going back to 1997.”

In the current case, Kohut faces 11 felonies. All charges are linked to sodomy, lewd acts with children and other forced offenses. If convicted, Kohut will face a minimum 165-year prison term.

“He has a specific desire to have sex with a mother and a daughter,” Moore wrote. “He then wants to impregnate the daughter and raise the child sexually in the ‘taboo’ family lifestyle.”

Emily Stephens, a nurse from Pima County, Arizona, and Rashel Brandon, of Watsonville, California, were also charged in the sex ring.

“He would constantly ask Brandon to bring him other girls. Brandon describes how the two of them made plans to adopt a child through a foster care facility and even had plans to try to adopt a child from the country of Mexico,” said Moore.

The case began when three women came forward, and more have started to talk. Police are using an internet trail to find out how many people Kohut targeted.

“Besides the women that have come forward, there are more,” Moore wrote. “Since 1997, the defendant has been using the internet to find new women to participate in a ‘taboo family.’ (Another woman) reported in 2001 that she found defendant’s multiple online relationships. She found that all of his sexual requests of these were the same. He wanted bestiality, incest and a ‘sexual family.'”
