Kanye West Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends

But he'll still pass the aux cord.

“I feel so happy,” Kanye West said, during his album listening party and Yeezy Season 3 presentation, today, February 11, at Madison Square Garden. “I feel so much joy to be able to follow my dreams without people s**tting on me.”

While premiering his album in a global fashion, it’s clear that Kanye really did go all out. The Life of Pablo has some wonderfully experimental moments full of big production and incredible guest features, making for the most fitting possible soundtrack to share his latest collection, Yeezy 3.

While lines such as, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that b***h famous,” and "Blac Chyna f***ing Rob helped him with the weight" have got people talking, it's another reminder that Kanye didn't come here to make friends. The rapper is once again doing whatever it is he wants, and even took some time to speak on what it is like to be an artist in control of his art and how often artists are misunderstood when they don't have that control.

Taking us through track by track and thanking everyone from Jay Z to Rihanna to Kirk Franklin, Ye paused to ask those glued to his every move, “Did I deliver on my promise on the album?”

Kanye later interrupted his own listening party to pass the aux cord around and debut a new record from Young Thug, who also appeared in the fashion/visual component of the afternoon, wearing new pieces from the Yeezy 3 collection, alongside OG’s Naomi Campbell and Veronica Webb, both looking absolutely stunning.

Young Thug’s new record seemed to wake the audience out of its Ye-captivated daze and turn it into a day party. Why not, right? Vic Mensa also debuted a new track, and it was announced that Brooklyn-based rapper Desiigner, who makes an appearance on Kanye’s track “Freestyle” has been signed to G.O.O.D. Music.

“I’m only 38 years old,” Ye said, addressing the crowd once more. “I want to bring as much beauty to the world as possible.” Seems like overall Ye was in a sharing mood, taking the opportunity to premiere amazing music alongside his highly sought-after co-sign.

Whether fans miss the old Kanye, hate the new Kanye or can’t get enough Kanye, Ye sharing the aux cord isn’t something that happens every day, but we're glad he did.
