Chris Rock's Top Five Earns Rave Reviews, Global Distribution Deal
Chris Rock was the toast of the Toronto Film Festival last week with the premiere of his independent film Top Five. The comedy, which was written, directed by and stars Rock, earned rave reviews from critics and sparked an intense bidding war before landing with Paramount Pictures. The company will release it around the world in the coming year.
Top Five tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen (Rock), whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career — and the past — that he's left behind. The all-star cast also includes Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, J.B. Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Anders Holm, Romany Malco, Leslie Jones, Michael Che and Jay Pharoah. The film is produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush and co-produced by Jay Z and Kanye West. Questlove served as executive music producer.
We'll be waiting eagerly for this one to hit theaters!
