Eddie Murphy's So-Called Son Drops $50 Million Defamation Lawsuit

Aspiring comedian admits it was all a publicity stunt.

Eddie Murphy won't have to deal with daddy issues any longer. The defamation lawsuit filed against the comedy icon by a man who claimed to be his son has been dropped, TMZ reports. What's more, the comedian — who called himself Brando Murphy — admits that the suit was an elaborate publicity stunt engineered by his management.
Brando, who is an adult, changed his name to Murphy and joined the Sons of Comedy Tour alongside Richard Pryor's son last year. He also had a history of showing up at a Los Angeles coffee house frequented by Murphy and shouting "my father won't talk to me."
The impostor filed a $50 million defamation suit against Murphy after the Oscar-nominated actor and former SNL star sent him a threatening letter, which Brando called "vile, base, contemptible, miserable, wretched and loathsome."
Looks like Murphy's lawyer Marty Singer successfully scared the pants off of "Brando Murphy," as the wannabe has backed down from both his paternity claims and his bogus lawsuit.
Hopefully this means Murphy can go about his life in peace and deal with those other paternity rumors that he's expecting a child with his girlfriend, Paige Butcher.
