On Tuesday, the tennis legend broken her silence on such issues, taking to her Facebook account and using a story about her 18-year-old nephew driving as a springboard to open up the conversation of racial and social injustices against African-Americans in the U.S.

Evoking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s quote about silence being betrayal at the end and vowing to not be quiet on such issues herself was an especially powerful way to end this statement and promise.

It will be interesting to see how Serena specifically plans to combat racial inequality moving forward.
