From Jay-Z to Eminem, a slew of premiere rappers have openly discussed their apprehensions about the upcoming rap generation. Critiques over the quality of their bars and unofficially dubbing the new sound mumble rap just scratch the surface of disconnect between the rap generations.

21 Savage, a proud leader of the new school, took to Twitter with with questions for veteran emcees constantly judging his peers. “Why do so many of these ‘Og Rappers’ judge the new generation,” he asked. “They say we make drug user music like making drug selling music is better what’s the difference?”

Proud of the success he and many others like him have made, 21 added, “What about the fact that rap is the number one genre of music right now none of y’all acknowledge that.”

Calling out the hypocrisy in veteran rappers shaming lyrics promoting drug abuse, 21 continued, “Artists been snorting cocaine and smoking crack since the 70s and 80s did y’all forget that? Instead of judging how about y’all make a change. If the message in the previous generation of rap was good why did so many of our parents abandon us for crack? Why we still king each other? Don’t use us as the scape goat [sic]!”

“Our music is a reflection of what’s going on in our community and all we doing is using our talent to escape that community,” he concluded.

21 Savage’s comments drew a slew of replies online, including fellow Atlanta rapper and seasoned emcee T.I.
