We Finally Know If Usain Bolt Will Compete in the 2020 Olympics

The world's fastest man has made his decision.

After securing a triple-triple in the Rio Games — his third straight Summer Olympics with three gold medals — Usain Bolt could attempt to make it 12 total gold medals by competing in the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

But the world's fastest man is saying thanks, but no thanks to that invitation.

While recently speaking with Complex, Bolt ruled out the possibility of competing in the 2020 Olympics quicker than he could finish the 100-meter dash.

The reason? A lack of "motivation." Makes sense considering the 30-year-old has dominated the competition in untouchable fashion on the world's biggest sports stage for the past 12 years.

"Definitely. No man, I can’t go," Bolt said, definitively shutting the door on the prospect. "This year I kind of struggled for motivation. Because I’ve done everything and I asked myself one time in the season, 'Why am I doing this?' That’s the first time I’ve ever asked myself that because I love the sport and it’s horrible. One day I was in training and it was tough. And after I finished training, I asked myself, 'Why I doing this? I’ve done it.'"

Prior to the Rio Games, it was widely reported that Bolt wouldn't race in the 2020 Olympics. Now it's official.

Bolt added, "For me, when I kind of woke up. I couldn’t believe I actually questioned myself like that. So I knew, this is it. I need to really stop if I’m reaching to the stage where I’m questioning myself if I really need this."

If this is indeed it for Bolt's Olympic career, he has left an indelible legacy, having won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay in three straight Summer Games for a total of nine gold medals.

The world's fastest man was untouchable in his sport.
