Box Office: Straight Outta Compton Is the Number-One Music Biopic of All Time
If there's a box office record in sight, Straight Outta Compton is breaking it. The N.W.A biopic soared to the top of the box office once again — that's the third weekend in a row, if you're counting — taking in an additional $13.2 million.
Add up all the coin Straight Outta Compton has collected since it opened, and that comes to a total of $134.1 million in North America, making it the number-one music biopic of all time.
But that wasn't the only success story at the box office this weekend. Faith-based film War Room exceeded expectations with $11 million in ticket sales, a whopping number considering its limited release and $3 million price tag.
The news was not so great for Zac Efron's We Are Your Friends. The EDM-themed film became the lowest-grossing major release in box office history, making only $1.8 million in 2000 theaters. To put it in perspective, more people probably showed up to your cookout this weekend.
Third place went to Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation with $8.3 million, with political action-thriller No Escape and horror sequel Sinister 2 rounding out the top five, with $8.29 and $4.3 million, respectively.
With The Transporter: Refueled the only major release scheduled for the Labor Day weekend, Straight Outta Compton has at least a second-place finish its grasp.
