Why Is Black Twitter Going In On This Oscar-Nominated Actress?
Oscar-nominated actress and writer Julie Delpy is the latest person to weigh in on #OscarsSoWhite, but Black Twitter is blasting her for saying that there's “nothing worse than being a woman in this business.”
Delpy, who was nominated for Academy Awards for co-writing Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, went a step further by adding that she thinks she's be better off as a Black actor than a white actress. “Two years ago, I said something about the Academy being very white male, which is the reality, and I was slashed to pieces by the media," she says. "It’s funny – women can’t talk. I sometimes wish I were African American because people don’t bash them afterward.”
Twitter, of course, wasted no time giving her the side-eye and a whole lot more:
Well, if Julie really feels that way, hopefully she's ready to accept slavery, Jim Crow, police brutality, institutionalized racism, mass incarceration, poverty and offensive racial sterotypes as part of the "perks" of being Black.
Surely Rachel Dolezal can explain to her what it's like:
